Fair or not, there is no event in sports that creates defining moments quite like the Olympics (just ask Mary Decker-Slaney). Jacobellis, who squandered a gold medal in snowboard cross eight years ago in Torino due to hot-dogging, crashed on Sunday while ahead of the pack and finished seventh. She may be the world's best at this event --she's an eight-time champion at the Winter X-Games--but her Olympic hardware does not reflect it.
John Daly
The U.S. skeleton racer was in third place with one run remaining and then he chose that run to be perhaps the worst of his career. Daly's sled slid off the grooves at the start, essentially ending his bid for bronze at the top of the track. "I had a mile of ice to think about what just happened," said Daly, who had graciously recorded "Intro to Skeleton" segments for NBC as part of its coverage,"and now I have four more years to wait."
