Surveillance video showing the swift early-morning abduction last year by U.S. commandos of alleged al Qaida operative Anas al-Libi was obtained by the Washington Post and posted Monday evening.
The grainy black-and-white video shows a dark car parking in front of a building in Tripoli, Libya. A white van pulls up next to it, and immediately men emerge from the van, pointing guns at the car. They open the car doors, pull out al-Libi, and drive away. The capture is completed in under 30 seconds.
Al-Libi, 49, is alleged to be involved in plotting the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people and wounded 5,000. After the capture, he was flown to New York, where he pleaded not guilty to the bombing charges and remains in custody.
The video was captured by a closed-circuit security camera outside the building al-Libi lived in, according to the Post, and the family tells CNN that the footage is genuine.
