WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Carolina Panthers on Wednesday placed defensive end Greg Hardy, who was convicted in a domestic abuse case but has appealed the verdict, on their exempt list, meaning he will take a leave of absence from the team until his case is resolved.
"It's the right thing to do," Dave Gettleman, the Panthers' general manager, told reporters.
