"Gravity,""American Hustle," and "12 Years a Slave" lead in Oscar nominations

Oscar nominations are in and hold few surprises for movie critics. Three movies, American Hustle, Gravity, and 12 Years a Slave, lead the nominations with 10 each. There were a few snubs. Lee Daniel’s The Butler is nowhere to be found on the list, nor is star Oprah. Tom Hanks didn’t make the cut for best actor for his performance in Captain Phillips, although the film was nominated for best picture. The Wolf of Wall Street, a film with as many admirers as detractors, was nominated for 5 awards, and Scorsese could see a second best director award for the film. August: Osage County, a film made from an award-winning play, didn't see much love, although both Meryl Strep and Julia Roberts were nominated for their roles.
