Mark Zuckerberg just got a little bit closer to becoming the richest person on the planet. The Facebook founder’s net worth shot up by $2 billion after his company’s stock surged from approximately $71 per share on Wednesday afternoon to around $76 per share on Thursday morning, Forbes reported. Facebook stock has nearly doubled in value in the past year, according to Bloomberg.
Zuckerberg owns 28.2 percent of Facebook shares, according to whoownsfacebook.com.
The 30-year-old CEO is now worth $33.3 billion, according to Bloomberg. That puts him ahead of the likes of Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of Google, and Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Zuckerberg is now the 16th richest human being, Bloomberg said. Michael Bloomberg, who owns Bloomberg Media, is the 14th richest.
“He’s going to become the richest person on the planet,” David Kilpatrick, author of The Facebook Effect, told Forbes.
